Anupama Kundoo im AzW

Vor zwei Tagen war ich mit IGersAustria.at im Architekturzentrum Wien eingeladen. Auf dem Programm stand die Ausstellung „Reichtum statt Kapital“ der Architektin Anupama Kundoo. Eine Ausstellung, die nicht laut sein muss, um präsent zu bleiben.
Schon beim Eintreten wird klar: Hier geht es nicht um spektakuläre Architektur oder ikonische Formen. Die Ausstellung ist offen, ruhig und einladend. Man bewegt sich langsam durch den mit Grünpflanzen zusätzlich belebten Raum, bleibt stehen, schaut genauer hin. Modelle, Materialien, und Fotografien erzählen von einer anderen Haltung zum Bauen. Einer Haltung, die Zeit braucht und genau das auch zulässt.
Was mich besonders angesprochen hat, ist die Konsequenz, mit der Anupama Kundoo über Ressourcen nachdenkt. Nicht im Sinne von Verzicht, sondern im Sinne von Leistbarkeit und Verfügbarkeit. Lokale Materialien, Handwerk, Wissen, Klima, Gemeinschaft. Architektur als Prozess, nicht als Produkt. Als etwas, das wächst, statt einfach errichtet zu werden.
Auch fotografisch ist die Ausstellung spannend. Viele Details, Oberflächen, Strukturen, Übergänge. Dinge, die man leicht übersieht, wenn man Architektur nur als fertiges Objekt betrachtet. Hier wird das Unfertige, das Prozesshafte sichtbar. Das macht das Ganze sehr nahbar und überraschend sinnlich.
„Reichtum statt Kapital“ stellt die richtigen Fragen: Wem dient Architektur? Was bedeutet Fortschritt wirklich? Und was bleibt, wenn man den Blick weg vom Markt und hin zum Menschen richtet?
Ein großer Dank geht an @igersaustria.at und das AZW für die Einladung und interessante Führung. Es war ein Abend, der nicht überfordert, sondern nachwirkt. Still, klar und sehr gegenwärtig.
Die Ausstellung ist noch bis 9.3.2026 im AzW im Museumsquartier zu sehen.
Between Material, People, and Attitude.
Anupama Kundoo at the AzW
Two days ago, I was invited to the Architekturzentrum Wien together with IGersAustria.at. On the program was the exhibition “Abundance Not Capital” about the architect Anupama Kundoo. An exhibition that does not need to be loud in order to be present.
From the moment you enter, it becomes clear: this is not about spectacular architecture or iconic forms. The exhibition feels open, calm, and welcoming. You move slowly through the space, which is further enlivened by green plants, pause, and take a closer look. Models, materials, and photographs speak of a different approach to building. An approach that requires time — and consciously allows it.
What struck me most was the consistency with which Anupama Kundoo thinks about resources. Not in terms of restriction, but in terms of affordability and availability. Local materials, craftsmanship, knowledge, climate, community. Architecture as a process, not a product. As something that grows, rather than something that is simply constructed.

The exhibition is also visually compelling from a photographic perspective. Many details, surfaces, structures, transitions. Things that are easily overlooked when architecture is viewed only as a finished object. Here, the unfinished and the process itself become visible. This makes the exhibition feel very approachable and surprisingly sensual.
“Abundance Not Capital” asks the right questions: Who does architecture serve? What does progress really mean? And what remains when we shift our focus away from the market and back to people?
Many thanks to @igersaustria.at and the AzW for the invitation and the insightful guided tour. It was an evening that does not overwhelm, but lingers. Quiet, clear, and very present.
